The Psychology Of Colours In Clothing

Did you know that the colours in our clothing can also alter your emotions and influence your shopping habits? As many as 85% of us believe that colour is the primary factor when buying a product and 90 seconds is all it takes for a product to create an impression on us and others. The colours in our clothes also have the same effect on subliminally changing our own mood or sending off a certain vine to someone else with what you chose to wear.

The way this works is that bright colours (even in small icons) trigger neurological responses in the brain and causes the hypothalamus gland to release hormones associated with happiness. Visually seeing bright colours such as pink, red, orange and yellow help with the release of dopamine, making us feel happier and also wearing the clothes with blue causes the release of oxytocin making us feel more calm, ideal if you suffer from stress. There’s never been a better time to buy a new wardrobe!!

Yellow:

For example, yellow tends to make people think of summer, sunshine and flowers and yellow is connected to increased mood and mental activity as it increases the production of serotonin in the brain, speeds up metabolism and lifts the mood to all those around it. Experts say that shades of yellow in clothing attract bright dreamers and adventurers, ready to explore and conquer!

Orange:

Similarly, splashes of orange lift the mood and low energy levels and have been shown to have an influence on your focus and concentration too. Orange always gives an atmosphere a fun party vibe, in addition to being a warm and opportunistic colour. It is also cheerful, creative and attractive. Those who like to wear orange are optimistic, energetic and cheerful, and are eager for change.

Blues:

Blues and greens can be soothing and calming. Blue is also the best colour to put on to an interview because it sends out confidence and reliability. Therefore, many working uniforms or business suits are of blue colour.

Black:

Black is a colour that is taken seriously. It helps people wearing it to switch the attention of surroundings from their appearance to personality since internal qualities of a person are most important to them.

White:

White is the symbol of freedom, purity, innocence, and simplicity. That’s why many people decide to buy something white when they are starting something new in their life or entering a new chapter. The colour white often attracts reliable people who love freedom and who look at life optimistically, although, in general, white can be worn by many different personality types as it’s a neutral colour, which rarely repels others.
